Character Building Moments
What life experiences or events are holding you back from your full potential?
Our last post we explored the topic of excuses we tell ourselves, and how we might work through them. First, we must understand ourselves. Secondly, we must make better decisions. Excuses are one thing; major life events are another. So, it seems appropriate to discuss life events that may be holding you back. These experiences may have damaged us and filled our minds with false realities. We all go through things. What experiences are holding you back from achieving goals or dreams?
Each of us has had many life experiences that make us who we are today. Identifying those events and the impact they have made on our lives is important to our personal growth and development. Have they damaged us in some way? Are we forever incapable of healing from these moments? I would argue, no, we are not damaged by any means. Still, these life events must be identified so we may move forward.
Identifying these moments is important, but understanding whether these moments have forever changed us is another. Too often, an experience may cause us to form a belief that holds us back. This is not to minimize any experience that some people have, for which professional help is needed. We give certain beliefs too much credibility, giving us permission to lie to ourselves. An event or experience, and the beliefs formed are not always reality. We must see these experiences as part of life, and not roadblocks to our dreams.
The thoughts will always come back over and over. Knowing this and becoming mentally strong will allow us to pursue dreams, and reach major goals. How will your day-to-day thinking change, to override the negative belief systems in your mind? Is it the consumption of positive content, or a change in habits that will meet these thoughts head-on? Identify your method; seeing reality in your situation and avoid giving too much credibility to one life event or interaction, will forever change your path in life.
Is there a life event that stops you from pursuing a dream, and why?
Is this event or experience reality, or a lie that holds you back?
How will you work to override negative beliefs, every day?
As a child I struggled in school and teased for being dumb for years following. I have identified this as the event that causes me doubt and uncertainty in my life, but I have also identified it as the reason I am so focused on self-improvement. What experiences have you had that make you the person you are today? Thanks for checking in, and please leave a comment below that will contribute to this conversation.
