Enlightenment
Our hearts and minds must remain centered, and each of us finds that center in our own way. During times when I am searching for answers, there is a quote I often return to—one that has been especially present for me this week. Attributed to Oswald Chambers, it reads:
“God’s aim looks like it is missing the mark, because we are too short-sighted to see what He is aiming at.”
This quote resonates deeply with me because it places daily struggles into a broader perspective. It reminds me that what feels uncertain or misaligned in the moment may actually be part of a greater purpose unfolding beyond what I can see.
I often think back to something my wrestling coach once told us: you need to believe in something higher than yourself. He was referring to faith and spirituality, and while that belief system is deeply personal and unique to each individual, the message has stayed with me. Whatever your belief may be, I encourage you to embrace it. For me, that grounding belief is my relationship with my Lord and Savior.
You might be wondering—what does this have to do with personal development and growth?
The answer is simple: growth is our responsibility. Personal development is a daily commitment, and one of the most powerful areas of growth we can explore is our spirituality. You don’t need to believe what I believe; you need to believe in what works for you. A higher belief system—however you define it—can provide clarity, peace, and direction when life feels uncertain.
We have all faced moments of indecision. Times when the next step wasn’t clear, or when a choice carried life-changing weight. In those moments, uncertainty becomes an opportunity to grow—particularly in faith. I trust in a higher power and have faith that things will work out as they are meant to. Too often, we become overwhelmed by plans, goals, and careers, forgetting that trust in a guiding process can bring peace and perspective. At times, we are simply too short-sighted to see what lies ahead.
If you’ve spent time studying personal growth, you’ve likely heard the importance of discovering your purpose. Finding and understanding that purpose can be a long and challenging journey. Many of us spend our lives searching. Spiritual belief can help ease that pressure. When we slow down and sit with our thoughts, we begin to hear clarity emerge. For me, that clarity comes from trusting God. Your path may look different—and that’s okay.
I invite you to reflect:
Have you identified a higher belief that inspires you to become better?
How has faith supported you during moments of uncertainty?
In what ways has your spirituality influenced your goals and dreams?
This post may feel different from others I’ve shared, and that is intentional. My goal is not to persuade you to adopt my beliefs, but to encourage you to consider the value of having your own higher belief system—one that grounds you, guides you, and moves you toward growth and enlightenment.
Being attuned to our spirituality—whether religious or personal—is deeply connected to personal development. Without that connection, we risk living disconnected from our fullest potential. I hope this reflection speaks to you and that the guiding questions help you move toward the growth you are seeking.
Have a great week.
