Mental Reset

Are you in need of a mental and emotional reset?

My wife and I are huge dog lovers, and we have four constantly trying to get our attention. Recently, as I was getting ready for bed one night, the dogs were seeking that attention and being annoying. I yelled at them, which is never a clever idea around my wife. They are her babies and yelling at them was not well received, trust me. She asked why I was so crabby. It occurred to me that yes, I have been moody lately. It forced me to reflect on my mental and emotional mindset, as it relates to my development and growth. Our goals mean little if we struggle with a negative mindset, or we respond poorly to a situation.

Identifying the causes of our anger, frustration, or sadness is vital to achieving our goals. I have found that when we are struggling emotionally with something or wrestling with our thoughts on an issue it is extremely hard to concentrate on becoming a better version our ourselves. Our negative thoughts muddy the water and pollute the thought process needed to develop ourselves or our dreams. It requires us to reflect on the emotions we experience any given day. Are we stressed at work, or frustrated with someone? Are the relationships in your life in turmoil? Many things affect our minds, turning us into negativity sponges. It is important that we take a moment to explore our emotions and mental state of mind if we want to be effective in our pursuit of success.

Identify key elements to what our reset must entail, puts actionable steps into overcoming any negative views we hold. Recently for me, is getting in touch with my Faith. My Faith is important to me and is different for everyone. I found it to be an important piece of the puzzle. What are you consuming intellectually or on social platforms? Is it positive and purposeful in nature, or is it garbage that is polluting your mind? Are you moving or exercising each day? I know I could do better in this area, as movement is good for our minds. How much time are you spending on your phone or online? This has been enlightening for me, as I choose to put away my phone more often. Each of us must decide what actionable steps we need to take each day, to improve our minds and our emotions.

We need to identify a team of like-minded individuals whom we trust more than anyone else. We all have people in our lives who we trust, who can support us without judgment. If we have specific goals we are working on, finding those who are working in the same area of personal development is perfect. You may ask, what if the person closest to us has a negative mindset and views? It is not easy to say, but we cannot depend on them to help us become more positive in our views. We must find another, still appreciating that person and the value they do provide us with.

What is causing your anger, frustration, and sadness?

How do you plan to reset your mind and emotions to meet your goals?

Who is on your team,  to assist you with your personal development?

Our emotional state of mind is important to our growth and development. However, if anyone is struggling with severe mental and emotional illnesses, they must seek the appropriate help. I hope you get the opportunity to reflect on your mindset and take steps to get on the right track. Once your thoughts are clear and positive, I have no doubt you will do remarkable things!

Steve Bucks

My name is Steve Bucks, and my passion for personal growth and development has been the driving force throughout my life and career. My journey began as a student who faced significant academic challenges—nothing came easily. However, my determination and perseverance sparked a lifelong commitment to learning, improvement, and helping others do the same.

Naturally, this path led me into education. I became a teacher to support students who, like me, found school difficult to navigate. My teaching career began in Texas and continued in Minnesota, where I spent the majority of my years in the classroom and raised my family. Eventually, my desire to make a broader impact led me into school administration. I began serving as an administrator in South Dakota in 2016 and transitioned to Montana in 2023.

With nearly 30 years of experience in public education, I've witnessed many changes—but one constant has been my passion for growth, both personally and professionally. In 2022, I became a Certified Coach and Speaker with the Maxwell Leadership Team, a journey I’ve continued into 2024 and 2025.

Through coaching and leading Mastermind groups, I’ve expanded my reach, helping individuals and teams unlock their potential and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Are you at a crossroads or feeling stuck in an area of your life? If so, I’d love to explore how I can support your journey.
