The Continuous Search

Are you still on the hunt for the next thing that could fuel your growth?

My son graduated last week. I’m excited for the adventures he and his class are about to experience. It is truly an exciting time of the year. In thinking on this, I was reminded of the importance of our personal growth. Our growth is a continuous process of searching for the magic bullet. News flash, there is no magic bullet. It truly is a hunting expedition that we must be intentional about every day. How is your search going?

What are you working towards, and what actions are you doing to get there? Our daily routines say a lot about our intentions, and how we prioritize our growth. We may read, or consume other material for our growth. Whatever that is, be consistent in the consumption of these materials. If you’re like me, you have a plethora of materials you use and reuse often. I have so much stuff that I forget the great things I have used in the past. Bottom line, create routines where you are engaging in some form of personal growth and development.

Sometimes the biggest issue is procrastination. Too often, we might put off what we can do today, saying we will do it next week or next month. We must fight that thought process and do something. We waste a lot of time on unproductive things, or we become distracted by the outside world, and our intrusive phones. Intentionally putting those things aside is vital to our efforts to stop procrastination.

Another potential avenue to improve ourselves is to share our growth plan with others. It can be difficult, as we may fear judgement. A true partner in your growth and development would never judge you; rather they could be your cheerleader. Finding that person is an important step in our growth, and immensely powerful. These individuals will hold you accountable in your action steps and positive mindset. Better yet, this person may be on a similar growth path and could be a partner in the adventure of growth and personal development. Do you have anyone in mind who could fulfill this role?

What do your daily routines say about you, and your personal growth?

How are you wasting valuable time or procrastinating?

Who is on your team, and how have they aided your journey?

As I told this year’s graduating class in the closing of my speech. It’s time to get after it! Create the necessary routines, allow time to consume material, and find a partner to join you on your path towards growth. I hope you get after this week. Steve Bucks

My name is Steve Bucks, and my passion for personal growth and development has been the driving force throughout my life and career. My journey began as a student who faced significant academic challenges—nothing came easily. However, my determination and perseverance sparked a lifelong commitment to learning, improvement, and helping others do the same.

Naturally, this path led me into education. I became a teacher to support students who, like me, found school difficult to navigate. My teaching career began in Texas and continued in Minnesota, where I spent the majority of my years in the classroom and raised my family. Eventually, my desire to make a broader impact led me into school administration. I began serving as an administrator in South Dakota in 2016 and transitioned to Montana in 2023.

With nearly 30 years of experience in public education, I've witnessed many changes—but one constant has been my passion for growth, both personally and professionally. In 2022, I became a Certified Coach and Speaker with the Maxwell Leadership Team, a journey I’ve continued into 2024 and 2025.

Through coaching and leading Mastermind groups, I’ve expanded my reach, helping individuals and teams unlock their potential and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Are you at a crossroads or feeling stuck in an area of your life? If so, I’d love to explore how I can support your journey.
